Current Announcements – July 9

Our Pancake Breakfast with Craft and Bake Sale on July 4th was a huge success with lines of people streaming in on a rainy morning for breakfast. Kathy Uggerholt coordinated this huge effort and there were volunteers everywhere, welcoming parishioners and holiday makers alike! Our St. John’s parade float (John Harrington’s truck) made it just about to the end of the parade before the rains came – again. But it did not rain on anyone’s parade because this was another outstanding representation of our St. John’s community to the Town of Sandwich.  There were 229 breakfasts served; the craft/bake sale generated $1116, of which half goes to the Quilter’s Group for supplies and needfuls, and the other half is given to the parish. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event another rousing success!

Every week we pray for healing for those listed in our Prayers and Celebrations section. If you, or someone you know would like to be on this prayer list, please let us know, either by email or a call.

July 12th is the date for the next Quilter’s Group – meeting in the Parish Hall at 2PM and at the same time our Prayer Shawl Group gathers in the Office Building at 2PM.

Donation boxes for our shoe drive have been filling up nicely and we have received many donations of new and gently used shoes for our shoe drive which continues through the end of July. This is a great way to support our church and helps you with house cleaning at the same time. Drop off your donations in the boxes on the front porch of the 161 office building any time. Thank you! Helen and Alan Miller

Your Search Committee Needs Your Help!
St. John’s Search Committee members and other members of the congregation have been busy working on the text of the Parish Profile which will be used to call our new rector. We would like to add some updated photos to the Profile to further depict all aspects of parish life at St. John’s. If you have any recent photos that you think would fit the bill, please e-mail them to Celia Bailey-Ochoa at cbochoa1@comcast.net. Prior to publishing, we will ask permission to do so from anyone pictured in the photographs. Now, get scrolling through all those photos on your phones! We thank you for your help with this.

Be sure to set aside time for our St. John’s Garden Tour which will be held on Saturday, July 22nd from 10AM – 2PM. You may pick up a flyer from the table in the Narthex which gives information on each of the 4 gardens on the tour.

On Sunday July 23, we are inviting all the clergy who have served St. John’s starting with the Rev. John McGinn and through The Rev, Dr.  Tom Ferguson to a celebration of our shared ministries.

For anyone who viewed THE LETTER about Pope Francis’ encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si, and would like to know more about our Anglican view point, here are two articles that address the Anglican theological dialogue with the Pope’s encyclical:  “Tending This Fragile Earth, Our Island Home: The Pope’s Encyclical in Dialogue with Anglican Theology” The Rev Dr.John L Kater; “Tending This Fragile Earth, Our Island Home: The Pope’s Encyclical in Dialogue with Ecomimesis, a Design Model for Conservation Stewardship” Lillian C. Woo

These articles are in Anglican Theological Review, Fall 2018, Volume 100, Number 4. There may be a copy or copies of this journal in the parish library. If not, I will be happy to provide a copy to St. John’s. Submitted by Lillian C. Woo

A Call to Action from the Cape Cod Council of Churches:
There remains a specific need for tangible goods to help locally housed immigrant families as they go through the resettlement process. We will be asking our church partners to help supply some of these products over the next month, perhaps two. (Examples include: additional children’s toys and outdoor games/activities, toddler sized clothes, soccer supplies, etc.) Specific requests and drop off instructions will be forthcoming from the Council shortly.

Meanwhile, any financial donations can be sent to the Cape Cod Council of Churches, 320 Main St, Hyannis MA 02601. Or donations may be made through our website, capecodcouncilofchurches.org. Please designate your donation for “Resettling Families.”

We have a supply of shrubs for sale! Salmon and pink Azaleas at $10.00 each/3 for $25.00 and Pussy Willow trees at $10.00 each. Make your checks payable to St. John’s Church and take your shrubs from the walkway between the Church and the Office Building.
